Kenly Wind Farm Landscape Protection Group was set up following the St. Andrews University proposal to install 6x100 metre high wind turbines at Upper Kenly Farm which sits in the middle of the communities of Boarhills, Kingsbarns and Dunino plus numerous homes in the countryside surrounding the proposed development site. The University as the Developer have now applied for planning permission.
West Coast Energy are also proposing to install another 5x100 metre high wind turbines nearby at Kinaldy recently renamed Lingo, which impacts on many of the same people. These developments plus all the others for large scale turbines currently in the pipeline, would if allowed to proceed industrialise an area of great landscape value from the St. Andrews coast round the East Neuk to Largoward and all the surrounding unspoilt countryside. There are plans to build a series of massive off shore wind farms between about 6 and 30 miles off the Fife coast which will consist of well over 1,000 large turbines and will be clearly visable from our coast. Everyone has contrasting views on wind energy but off shore where there is constant wind certainly seem to solve many of the concerns that surround onshore wind farms, plus they offer employment opportunities for Fife and the Scottish Economy.
